Economic Diplomacy: an Italian story

Scholars and academics in political science have developed the concept of economic diplomacy to define the increasing leverage of diplomatic actors in transnational finance and trade negotiations (Lee and Hocking 2010). Nevertheless, history has shown that economic diplomacy can also consist of using economic influence to reach political and diplomatic outcomes, whether desired or not. This has often happened in history, and particularly remarkable is the example of Italy in the post-1945 era.
