  The Model EU Brussels is more than a simulation; it’s a transformative journey that unfolds in three distinct phases, combining online learning, hands-on experience in European institutions, and opportunities for professional development. This program is meticulously designed to immerse participants in the world of EU decision-making, enhance their understanding of climate policies, and refine their skills through real-world applications.
  

  

  Preparatory Webinars 

  The journey begins with a series of five preparatory webinars organized by Eastwest in collaboration with partner professors. These sessions are conducted online during the week before the simulation and are tailored to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills. The webinars will cover:

  • Understanding the EU: An overview of how the European Union functions, including insights into its institutions, legislative processes, and political dynamics.
  • Climate Change Focus: A deep dive into the main topic of the simulation—the EU Climate Law of 2021. Participants will explore the challenges related to climate change and the goals of the law.
  • Simulation Procedures: Detailed guidance on the rules and procedures of the simulation, including the roles participants will play, how to draft proposals, and the importance of coalition-building within political groups.

  
  

  All webinars will be recorded and available on Eastwest’s e-learning platform, allowing participants to review the content at their own pace. Additional resources, including reading materials, preparatory documents, and interactive forums, will also be available, providing a rich learning environment ahead of the Brussels experience.
  

  The Simulation in Brussels 

  The core of the program takes place in Brussels, where the simulation unfolds over three days. This phase immerses participants directly into the EU’s political heart, providing them with the unique opportunity to engage in authentic legislative processes within key EU institutions:

  • Conference Room (27 - 28 November): Divided into morning and afternoon sessions with a midday break, these first two days are focused on debates, negotiations, coalition formations, drafting legislative proposals.

  • European Parliament (29 November): The final day is dedicated to a conclusive debate on the draft proposals, culminating in a voting session that simulates the real legislative procedures of the European Parliament. 

  
  

  Post-Simulation Opportunities

  The program doesn’t end in Brussels. Participants are invited to engage in a journalism challenge, an exciting opportunity to further explore the topics discussed during the simulation.

  In fact, participants can opt to take part in this project where Eastwest will announce a climate-related topic. Those who choose to participate will have a few weeks to research and write a journalistic article on the given subject. The best articles will be featured in Eastwest’s geopolitical magazine, providing participants with a platform to showcase their work.

  Moreover, winners of the journalism challenge will be offered the chance to participate in an online internship with Eastwest’s editorial division. This internship allows participants to further develop their writing skills, engage with professional editors, and publish more articles, extending their learning experience beyond the simulation.
