New Paths for Fostering LGBTIQ + Rights within European Union and its Member States
15 - 17 November 2023

European Institutions edition

The Model EU Brussels is a role-play simulation of the European legislative process in Brussels. The main goal of the program is to make participants learn more about the functioning of the main European institutions, by simulating them.

Moreover, participants will have the chance to get in touch with high professionals such us Euro parliamentarians and the Commission Vice President*

*(Their participation in the project may be subject to institutional commitment).

During the simulation, participants will take on the role of a member of the European Parliament and will debate new paths for fostering LGBTIQ + rights within the European Union and its member States.

In fact, Art. 21 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union states that - inter alia - any discrimination based on any ground such as sexual orientation shall be prohibited.

In 2021, the European Parliament passed in plenary session Resolution 2021/2557 (RSP) declaring the territory of the European Union as an 'LGBTIQ Freedom Zone'. Nevertheless, achieving the objective is still a long way off.

Participating in the simulation of the EU Parliament will allow you to understand the dynamics beyond such a topic better, considering the various interests within the Member States.
Take the opportunity!

"Participating in Model EU Brussels has been a life-changing experience for me. As a law student, I have always been interested in European Institutions and European politics.
