Duration: 5 days
The United Nations have proposed to EWEI to select 100 students to be trained in order to be ready to participate to the 68th UN Civil Society Conference in Salt Lake City.
This time we are not proposing a simulation but the participation to a real UN Conference meeting, where 5000 students from every country in the world will work for a final document which will be delivered to the Secretary General of the UN.
Today 55% of the world’s population lives in urban areas and that figure is expected to reach 68% by 2050.
This makes it a priority for communities and local leaders to find sustainable solutions to poverty and inadequate housing, hunger and health, clean water, energy, environmental degradation and climate change, infrastructure, transport, education, migration, violence and gender equality.
Participation in the project means:
The Sustainable Development Goals are a footprint for action, advocacy and partnership, and a compass to ensure that no one is left behind.
The 17 SDGs were designed with direct participation from more than 10 million people globally over a three-year period and were launched in 2015 with the support of all 193 UN Member States.
Civil society is key for the promotion and understanding of these goals, as well as their achievement by 2030.
The 68th UN Civil Society Conference, in Salt Lake City, will focus on SDG n°11:
«To make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable by 2030»
Speakers include leaders and other representatives from NGOs, UN agencies, academia, faith traditions, the public and private sectors, youth from around the world
At the end of the three days, an output document will be drafted by the students, then submitted for global consultations during the conference and presented at the closing plenary for adoption.
The UN Civil Society Conference project will help students to understand the criticality of urban challenges nowadays and the importance of giving and implementing sustainable solutions. They will brainstorm together on topics that have to become part of their everyday life.
Students will get to participate to the UN conference in Salt Lake City and draft an official document, finding concrete solutions to sustainable urban growth.
It is a unique opportunity to interact with young people coming from all over the world and having the inputs of different knowledge areas and international backgrounds.
By the end of the program, students will have gained a deeper understanding of how UN conferences develop, what the current situation concerning urban growth is around the world and which objectives to set for the future.
The goal of the project is to allow participants to open their minds and be part of the decision-making process themselves. They will discover in practice how dialogue and collaboration constitute always an asset.
The structure of the UN Conference meeting is divided in three parts:
What is included in the participation fee?
