Why?

Understanding the fundamental economic dynamics has become a crucial feature of diplomatic debates, where public and private interests are more and more deeply interconnected.

Economic Diplomacy provides participants with a theoretical and practical knowledge of negotiation techniques in the economic field.

At the end of the project, each participant will acquire the right analytical instruments to understand how and why economic decisions are taken both in multilateral public forums and multinational corporations, thanks to a direct experience based on the “Learning by doing” approach, which is the leitmotif of all training activities organized by the EWEI Institute.

Geopolitics is the basis not only of UN Economic agenda, but also of the big corporations: do you want to debate on the commercial war between Pepsi and Coca-Cola? Come with us to New York and you will learn the secrets of this epic confrontation

Preparation courses

The participants will take part in 6 preparatory webinar courses, held on an e-learning Platform, wich will provide them with notions of economic diplomacy.

Lectures will explore the theoretical and practical aspects of  multilateral diplomacy – with a focus on the UN system – and the dynamics of negotiation in the private sector.

The lessons will be held by diplomats from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and by professionals of public-private partnership.

The participants will be trained to be ready to take part to real Companies Board Meetings, on one side, and to U.N. General Assembly economic agenda negotiations, on the other.

Date: June 2019

Farnesina Day

The online courses will lead to an intermediate step: the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Day.

The Day will focus on specific aspects of public Economic Diplomacy, with the contribution of high-level speakers from different national institutions.

The participants will also receive the “rules of the game” of a simulation based on real multilateral negotiations conducted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The training will be conducted by diplomats who take part in real negotiations.

Date: 18 June 2019

Where: Rome (Italy)

New York

With the knowledge acquired during the lessons and in the Farnesina Day, the students will fly to New York City for emotional 5 days of simulations and meetings.

Activities

The participants will have the opportunity to simulate a session of the U.N. General Assembly, on a topic of the economic agenda.

During the same days, the students will be hosted by one of the most innovative companies in the world for guided Board simulations:

  • Bloomberg – the financial, software, data and media giant
  •  Blackrock – the world’s largest investment management corporation
  •  Financial Times – the world’s leading global business publication
  •  PepsiCo – one of the largest food, snack and beverage corporations in the world
  •  Philip Morris International – a world’s leading cigarettes and tobacco company
  •  Unicredit – one of the main european global banking and financial services companies

These companies will open their doors for the first time, to let the participants understand their functioning and to reveal them their decision-making processes.
